After a 26-point fourth-quarter comeback, the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 126-125 in overtime on Sunday afternoon.
When the Hawks came out of the locker room after halftime trailing 65-46, assistant coach Taylor Jenkins said the Hawks needed to “play harder.”
In the fourth quarter, the Cavs seemed to have the game won. Cleveland led by 14 with just over six minutes left in the game, but the Hawks chipped away at the lead, narrowing the Cavs’ lead to nine points with 2:50 left in the game.
Paul Millsap, back in the starting lineup after a knee injury limited him for several weeks, hit a 3-pointer off a jump ball that tied the game and pushed it into overtime.
In overtime, Cavaliers’ forward LeBron James fouled out, leaving the Cavs to finish the last 1:52 of the game without him. James finished with a triple-double of 32 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists before fouling out— his 14th in the last five seasons.
The Hawks won 126-125 in overtime, ending one of the Hawks best comebacks of the season.
With the 126-125 win, the Hawks clinched a playoff spot and other Atlanta sports teams were quick to notice.
After the game, the Hawks wrote messages of thanks on social media to fans.
