More details on Atlanta United’s possible pursuit of Andres Guardado were revealed by Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl on Thursday.
Guardado told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution after he captained the Mexican team to a defeat of Paraguay at the Georgia Dome that he was interested in moving to MLS.
Wahl reported that Guardado would require a salary of as much as $4 million per year, and Atlanta United would have to pay PSV Eindhoven, Guardado's current club, a transfer fee. The salary figure is nowhere near the $7 million per yer Orlando pays Kaka, the league highest paid player.
However, Wahl said there is concern that Guarrdado’s management team is using Atlanta United as leverage against his current team.
Guardado is a 29-year-old box-to-box midfielder who has made more than 125 appearances for Mexico.
