The Dream defeated New York 85-72 in a preseason game on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden.

Angel McCoughtry and Erica Wheeler led Atlanta (1-1) with 13 points each. Erika de Souza scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Sancho Lyttle added nine points and Tiffany Hayes and Shoni Schimmel contributed eight points each. First-round draft choice Samantha Logic scored four points in slightly less than 10 minutes.

Atlanta pulled away in the third quarter by outscoring the Liberty 24-13. New York missed all eight of its 3-pointers.

The Dream will open the regular season at New York on June 5. Atlanta’s home opener will come two days later against Connecticut.

“We finally found our rhythm,” Dream coach Michael Cooper said. “We’ve had our lumps but our team’s intact. Now we get a chance to see ourselves on video, make some adjustments and prepare for the season opener against the New York Liberty.”
