Donald Young’s bright start to the 2015 tennis season continued to fizzle with a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Gilles Muller on Monday in the first round of the BB&T Atlanta Open at Atlantic Station.

Young, who lives in Atlanta, hasn’t won a match since March when opponent Yen-Hsun Lu retired in their opening round match in Miami. Young was beaten by Andy Murray in straight sets in the next round. That was the beginning of what is now a nine-match losing streak in main draws. Young fell to 1-5 in Atlanta.

The results are much different than how Young started the year.

He advanced to the quarterfinals of the Heineken Open in Auckland, N.Z. in January and the semifinals of the Memphis Open, where he was beaten by Kevin Anderson, in February.

Young advanced to the finals the next week in Delray Beach, Fla., where he was beaten by Ivo Karlovic. That was Young’s first appearance in a championship match since 2011 when he was beaten by Andy Murray in Bangkok.

He is 3-11 since in main draws, including the nine-match losing streak. His ranking has dropped from a high of No. 44 in March to No. 54.
