Jacob Peterson sustained an ankle injury during practice and likely will not be available for Atlanta United (2-1-1) in Saturday’s game at Toronto.

Peterson came off the bench to score a goal at Minnesota United in the season’s second game and made his first start in last week’s 0-0 draw at Seattle.

Peterson, 31, was acquired as a free agent after he playing the five previous seasons with Sporting KC. He broke into MLS in 2006 with Colorado. He has 23 goals in 249 MLS appearances.

Atlanta United manager Gerardo Martino said Peterson will likely be available for next week’s game at Montreal.

Flight is on time: Amid flight delays affecting travelers around the country, Atlanta United's flight to Toronto on Friday is on time.

Good test: Martino said Thursday that Saturday's game will be a good test for Atlanta United.

Toronto finished as runners up to Seattle in last year’s MLS Cup. The Canadian-based team features forwards Jozy Altidore and Sebastian Giovinco, and midfielder Michael Bradley.

“We know Toronto has some very talented players who are very good individually and collectively,” Martino said. “We know we will have to be at our best to take the game where we want.”
