Everyone has been poking fun at Bob Costas' red eye. And now, the fun is over - at least temporarily.

Costas has an eye infection. And the trooper that he is, he had been squinting his way through these Olympics.

Costas will miss Tuesday night’s primetime show due to his ailing eye and will be replaced by "Today Show" host Matt Lauer, the star announced this morning.

On Monday, however, the longtime Olympics broadcaster took a crack at it during NBC's coverage.

Costas sat for a segment with fellow Olympics broadcaster Mary Carillo and acknowledged - while drinking what he claimed to be vodka - that his eye "can't get any redder. No matter what I do." (Watch the clip below.)

A shocked Carillo chuckled and made a toast of it. "I'll drink to that," she said.

Sounds like the start of an Olympics drinking game.
