Former Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson has been fined $2.74 million by the NFL as the result of a workplace investigation.

The fine assessed will benefit organizations that support race and gender equity, according to a statement from the NFL.

In May, NFL owners approved the sale of the Panthers to Pittsburgh Steelers minority owner David Tepper after several allegations of inappropriate workplace behavior against Richardson surfaced in December. Richardson put the team up for sale within days of the allegations being reported.

Tepper, a hedge fund manager, reportedly signed a deal worth $2.2 billion in cash to purchase the Panthers in May.
