New Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper said he is “contractually obligated” to keep a statue of former Panthers owner Jerry Richardson outside of Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium, according to a report Tuesday by the Associated Press.

At his introductory press conference Tuesday, Tepper said the 13-foot statue of Richardson holding a football beside two panthers outside the team’s stadium was part of the deal when he chose to purchase the Panthers.

The sale of the Panthers to Tepper was officially finalized Monday, according to a new release by the team.

Tepper, a Pittsburgh Steelers minority owner who was approved to purchase the Panthers during May’s NFL owners meeting, purchased the Panthers for $2.2 billion this offseason after Richardson put the team up for sale after allegations of inappropriate workplace behavior arose in December.

Richardson was fined $2.75 million by the NFL in June as a result of a workplace investigation into the claims.
