David Ragan, who is from Unadilla and considers Atlanta Motor Speedway his home track, will provide a daily diary leading to Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at AMS. Friday’s entry:
“I woke up early for being at a race track, about 7:30. I got to sleep in a little bit more than I would have if my daughter had been here on the bus, but my wife and daughter didn’t come this weekend.
The first thing I did was go to the Speedway Children’s Charities/NRA Shootout at Cherokee Rose just down the road from the track. I didn’t get to shoot any sporting clays, but I did make an appearance. It’s always good to help the Speedway Children’s Charities. They do a lot of good for local families and a lot for people that need help all across the country. It was a little chilly out there but they had about 65 shooters.
I got back to the race track and got ready for practice. Qualifying practice was another important step. I’m just trying to learn what the M&M’s Crispy Camry is all about when it’s taped up and has a qualifying set-up in it.
I was very happy with the speed we had in practice. We made a few small adjustments for qualifying.
We made it to the second round and just missed it a little. It was a little too loose, and I had to get out of the throttle.
I’m a little bummed out that I didn’t qualify better, but I’m still excited for Saturday. That’s going to be an important day to get our race car driving good and work on our race set-up.
