Atlanta United striker Josef Martinez sat out Friday’s 1-0 win at Orlando City with what the team described as contusion on his right foot. Martinez wore a walking boot during the game and was not included in the 18 eligible to play. The team said he is day-to-day.
Manager Gerardo Martino said Martinez suffered the injury in the 3-2 win over Charleston in the U.S. Open Cup on June 14.
That was Martinez’s second game back from a thigh injury suffered while playing with the Venezuelan national team. He missed 10 Atlanta United games because of that setback.
After returning as a sub in the 2-0- loss at Chicago on June 10, Martinez appeared in five consecutive league games.
Martino indicated that Martinez has been dealing with the injury, but that it flared up before Friday’s game.
Martinez has scored nine goals in nine games.
