Micco Brisker rushed for 148 yards and scored four touchdowns, leading Milton to a 42-7 victory over visiting Cherokee on Friday.
Brisker scored three touchdowns in the first half, and quarterback Austin McLeod threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Zack Spiezio as the Eagles led 28-0 at halftime.
Brisker scored on a 12-yard run in the third quarter, and Chad Tolliver returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
Milton (7-2, 4-2 5-AAAAAA) has now won two in a row and is very much in contention for one of the two top seeds out of the region. The Eagles finish the regular season at Woodstock next week.
Cherokee was 1-9 in each of the past two seasons but finds itself in the playoff hunt heading into the final week of the regular season. The Warriors (5-4, 3-3 5-AAAAAA) finish the regular season at Wheeler next week and are looking for their first playoff berth since 2007.
Cherokee quarterback Spencer Ashley injured his right shoulder late in the third quarter and was unable to return. Backup Brit Williamson came in and led a drive to the Milton 5-yard line. But on fourth-and-goal, Tolliver jumped in front of Williamson’s pass at the goal line and raced 100 yards for a touchdown.
Williamson’s 77-yard touchdown pass to Dwayne Tiller accounted for the Warriors’ only touchdown.
Brisker and Tolliver have stepped up for Milton, since its top back, Treyvon Paulk, who committed to Tennessee, was lost to a knee injury in Week 2. Tolliver, who scored three touchdowns in last week’s big win over Walton, had 127 yards of offense and the 100-yard interception return Friday.
Milton finished with 298 rushing yards, behind a dominant line featuring starters Jake Mulligan, Nick Wilson, Tyler Perry, Max Moorman and Leighton Weatherby.
Milton has won the past five meetings with Cherokee.
