Defending champion McIntosh brings a 43-game winning streak into a rematch with Houston County in the Class AAAAA boys championship game today at Kennesaw State.
The Chiefs won their fourth state championship last season by defeating Houston County 2-0 in the title game.
McIntosh, ranked No. 1 in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, has outscored its three playoff opponents 20-1. The Chiefs (20-0) are led by Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year Adam Sheikali, who has 18 goals and 16 assists. Houston County (18-2) got two goals from star striker Steven Moore to beat Clarke Central 2-1 to advance to the championship game. Moore owns the school record for career goals and assists.
The McIntosh girls also will be competing for a state title, when they take on rival Starr’s Mill today in the fourth all-Fayette County championship game in five years.
Starr’s Mill (19-3) is seeking its sixth state championship. McIntosh (17-2) has won eight state titles, including the 2011 and 2012 championships. Starr’s Mill won the regular-season meeting 2-0 April 22.
