Louisiana-Monroe defensive lineman Gerrand Johnson expects his unit to do something no SEC defense could: stop Nick Chubb.
Some players spend time trying to hype up an opposing team, but Johnson spent his time in front of the microphone on Tuesday talking about how his fellow linemen expect to stop UGA’s star running back.
“Much due respect to Nick Chubb, I can’t wait to play against the guy,” Johnson told reporters. “He’s an awesome talent, but I’m not going in, I know Lorenzo (Jackson), I know Benji (Banogu)’s not going in, thinking ‘he’s gonna get his, but oh well.'”
Chubb burst onto the scene last year against some of the nation’s best defenses, en route to earning first-team All-SEC honors.
Apparently Johnson doesn’t care what Chubb has done in the past, he expects his team to rise to the challenge.
“We never talk about guys saying: ‘he’s gonna get his.’ I don’t care who you are,” Johnson said.
Of course, the Warhawks won’t just have to worry about Chubb. When the starting running back is on the sideline, the more-than-competent Sony Michel, Keith Marshall or Brendan Douglass will make life hard for ULM’s defense.
It doesn’t seem to matter to Johnson, who believes “It’s gonna be a knock-out, drag-out fight.”
