Three Atlanta United players have been called into their national teams for upcoming games.
Holding midfielder Carlos Carmona was called into Chile's squad on Tuesday for World Cup qualifying games against Argentina on March 23 and Venezuela on March 28. The Venezuelan team will feature Atlanta United forward Josef Martinez, who on Tuesday was named the MLS player of the week after scoring three goals in last week's 6-1 win over Minnesota United.
Attacking midfielder Miguel Almiron was called up by Paraguay last week. Paraguay will play Ecuador and Venezuela will play Peru on March 23. Brazil will play Paraguay on March 28.
Atlanta United won’t have any games between Saturday at home against Chicago and March 31 at Seattle.
Paraguay is seventh with 15 points in the CONMEBOL (South American) table for World Cup qualifying for Russia in 2018.
Venezuela is 10th with five points. Chile is fourth with 20 points. The four teams with the most points when qualifying concludes on Oct. 10 will automatically receive invitations to the World Cup.
Two more Atlanta United players could receive call ups. Trinidad and Tobago (Kenwyne Jones) and the U.S. (Greg Garza) have yet to release their rosters for upcoming games
