Kennesaw State athletic director Vaughn Williams denied a report that Murray State’s Chris Hatcher turned down an offer to become the Owls’ football coach.

“No one has been offered. We are closing the process,” he said Saturday.

WPSD, a TV station that serves the Western Kentucky region, reported Friday night that Hatcher had turned down an offer from Kennesaw State, attributing the information to Murray State athletic director Allen Ward.

Hatcher, a Macon native, is the head coach of the Racers. He played quarterback at Valdosta State and later become the Blazers’ head coach, leading the school to the Division II national championship in 2004. He later became head coach at Georgia Southern from 2007-09.

Kennesaw State’s football team is expected to play its first game in 2015. Williams has interviewed two Georgia Tech assistant coaches, Brian Bohannon and Andy McCollum, for the coaching position.
