Key offensive line recruit Andrew Raym passes on Bulldogs

Andrew Raym says he will play at Oklahoma.

Andrew Raym grew up in Oklahoma. Wore the Crimson and Cream gear. The yard sign out front said “OU” for folks passing by.

He was once committed to the Sooners but backed off that pledge to make sure he had the right decision.

So Raym thought about it. Had some serious interest in both Georgia and Michigan. There was some strong and well-developed interest in Georgia thanks to line coach Sam Pittman. Pittman is also from the state of Oklahoma.

When the decision was in, it meant this: He was staying home to play for the home state Sooners.

Pittman made it close. Very close. It just appears that the Sooners had about a 17-year head start. That was how Raym answered the question about how Oklahoma won out.

“The fact I’ve worn and dreamt of wearing that uniform for 18 years now,” Raym told DawgNation after his decision.

How close was it here?

Close. Very. It even appears that Pittman and Georgia have overtaken his home state Sooners at one point.

“There were 2 weeks I didn’t think I was going anywhere but Georgia,” Raym said. “I loved Georgia, but the love for OU just ran so much deeper.”

He also gave some finality to his recruiting decision. Will he take any more visits? Is there a chance for a late flip here?

“I’m done,” Raym told DawgNation.

The 6-foot-5, 300-pound prospect rates as the nation’s No. 3 offensive guard for this cycle. That currently slots him as the nation’s No. 90 overall prospect.

Those popular 247Sports “Crystal Balls” were on target this time. There were 14 predictions for Raym from recruiting insiders around the nation. Those all pointed to Raym not needing to get a yard sign from a new school for his family.

He becomes the 14th commitment for an Oklahoma class that came into the day with the nation’s No. 16 recruiting effort on the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings for 2020.

Raym is now the second-highest rated OL prospect in a Sooners class which now features three OLs.

Georgia has two prospects committed when rated among the nation’s top overall recruits.

The Sooners will now have two of their top targets rated among the nation’s top 100 overall players in 4-star OT Nate Anderson and Raym.

Georgia remains with three OL prospects for its 2020 group. The next big target for the Bulldogs on the Pittman radar would be 4-star OL Sedrick Van Pran. He can play at either center or guard, but he’s rated as the nation’s No. 3 center for this cycle.

Van Pran fits in as the nation’s No. 106 overall recruit for this cycle. Georgia also has commitments from 5-star tackle Broderick Jones, 4-star tackle Tate Ratledge and 4-star tackle Joshua Braun. Georgia has the No. 6 recruiting class in the 2020 recruiting cycle at the moment.
