Kennesaw State University director of trustee relations and development Matt Griffin will serve as interim athletic director, Kennesaw State president Sam Olens announced on Friday.

On Tuesday, it became public knowledge that Kennesaw State University athletic director Vaughn Williams accepted the position of senior associate athletic director for administration at Boston College.

Williams’ last official day as Kennesaw State athletic director will be July 28 and a national search is underway for Williams’ permanent replacement.

“I am grateful to serve as the interim director of athletics at Kennesaw State University,” Griffin said in a statement. “I want to thank President Olens for this opportunity, and I look forward to working with our coaches, staff and student-athletes.”

As the director of trustee relations and development since 2015, Griffin has also served as the Owls’ assistant athletics director for internal operations. Before his time at Kennesaw State, Griffin was the director of athletics at Southern Polytechnic State University.

“We are fortunate to have someone with Matt's experience who can step into the interim role and provide solid leadership while we search for Kennesaw State's new director of athletics,” Olens said in a statement.
