Pay close attention to the hands of Atlanta United goalkeeper Alec Kann this week and not just for the obvious reason that he is tasked with keeping Chicago from scoring in Saturday’s game at Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Instead, watch because Kann, a native of Decatur, may wear a prototype of the goalie gloves that he has designed with the company West Coast Goalkeeping.

Kann’s model isn’t yet named and isn’t yet for sale. He said he wore them during warm-ups for the inaugural game against New York Red Bulls and in the second half of last week’s game at Minnesota United.

“It will be nice to wear them on the field,” he said.

The gloves are white with gold trim and eventually will feature his signature on the right pinkie.

The gloves have a unique feature of including grip on the inside of the fingers. Kann said he’s never heard of a glove including that feature. He said the advantage is that the gloves allow goalkeepers to better squeeze the ball instead of having their fingers slip inside the gloves.

“Kind of a goalie-nerd thing, but it’s important to us,” he said.

Kann said the gloves will be for sale through the West Coast Goalkeeping website.
