Top performances from Week 5: Haynes, Brown, Lackey run their teams to big wins

Keyjuan Brown’s new coach predicted the junior running back would go for 2,000 yards this season. He’s officially on pace.

Brown rushed for 242 yards last week in a 34-33 victory over Lovett that stamped South Atlanta as the favorite to defend its title in Region 6-2A.

Brown is averaging 194 rushing yards, meaning he’ll need 10.3 games at that rate to reach the 2,000-yard milestone. Brown scored three touchdowns in the victory over Lovett.

*Blessed Trinity RB Justice Haynes rushed for 356 yards and three touchdowns, one a 95-yarder, on 36 carries in a 24-21 victory over Eagle’s Landing Christian.

*Hart County RB J.L. Lackey rushed for 249 yards and five touchdowns on 28 carries in a 63-28 victory over Westside of Anderson, S.C.

*Johns Creek WR/CB Joshua Thompson had three receptions for 43 yards and two touchdowns, returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown, rushed for 44 yards on two carries, blocked two extra points and forced a punter to tuck and run short of a first down in a 41-20 victory over Sequoyah. Thompson has blocked four kicks this season.

*South Atlanta RB Keyjuan Brown rushed for 242 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-33 victory over Lovett. Brown had two receptions for 25 yards.

*Ware County QB Thomas Castellanos was 18-of-27 passing for 335 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown in a 42-15 victory over Bainbridge.

*Banneker RB/DB Jamill Williams rushed for 101 yards, had 120 yards receiving, scored three touchdowns and had four tackles in a 28-21 loss to Jonesboro.

*Brantley County freshman RB Kendall Wright rushed for 142 yards on 18 carries and scored a touchdown in a 28-13 victory over Frederica Academy.

*Brooks County RB Omari Arnold rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns and returned punts 59 and 30 yards for touchdowns in a 43-0 victory over Mitchell County.

*Calhoun QB Christian Lewis was 7-of-7 passing for 208 yards and three touchdowns and scored two touchdowns playing just the first half in a 56-16 victory over Woodstock.

*Carrollton QB M.J. Morris threw six TD passes to five receivers and was 16-of-19 for 255 yards in a 56-15 victory over Dalton. Morris also scored a touchdown and rushed for 35 yards.

*Carver of Atlanta RB Quintavious Lockett rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries in a 54-6 victory over Redan.

*Cass WR Sacovie White had 12 receptions for 95 yards and three touchdowns in a 30-6 victory over Ridgeland.

*Chamblee QB Fabian Walker was 18-of-27 passing for 367 yards and five touchdowns, all in the first half, in a 51-20 victory over Woodland of Cartersville.

*Chestatee DL Jeronimo Marin had nine solo tackles, four assists, three tackles for losses, a sack and a safety in a 23-21 loss to North Hall.

*Columbia DE/LB Marquez Harris had 11 tackles, three sacks, four tackles for losses and a forced fumble in a 34-22 victory over Jordan.

*Columbus RB Robert Edwards rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries in a 44-0 victory over Jordan.

*Creekside QB Nyqua Lett was 11-for-20 passing for 159 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 88 yards and a score in a 41-0 victory over Drew.

*Crisp County LB Julian Fox had 10 tackles, two sacks, three tackles for losses and a fumble recovery in a 27-0 victory over Jackson County.

*Dougherty QB Kam Davis rushed for 207 yards and two touchdowns and was 6-of-12 passing for 134 yards and a touchdown in a 52-23 victory over Turner County.

*East Jackson QB Tyler Crow rushed for 278 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries and was 2-of-3 passing for 71 yards and a touchdown in a 56-27 victory over East Hall.

*Eastside RB Kenai Grier, playing only the first half, rushed for 145 yards and scored touchdowns on three of his four carries in a 65-0 victory over Johnson of Gainesville. Grier also scored on a 26-yard TD pass.

*Fannin County LB Andrew Waldrip had eight solo tackles, six assists and three tackles for losses and recovered an onside kick in a 30-13 victory over Banks County.

*Fellowship Christian WR Josh Milhollin had nine catches for 228 yards in a 35-14 victory over North Cobb Christian.

*Flowery Branch RB Myles Ivey rushed for 134 yards, caught three passes and scored three touchdowns in a 56-0 victory over Hiram.

*Gainesville RB Naim Cheeks rushed for 238 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries in a 34-7 victory over Forsyth Central.

*Greenbrier WR Malik Leverett had touchdowns rushing, passing and receiving in a 35-34 loss to Loganville. Leverett had seven receptions for 186 yards, one rush for 23 and one pass for 24 yards for 233 total yards and three touchdowns.

*Greene County freshman DB Steve Miller returned a fumble 36 yards for a touchdown and an interception 42 yards for a score on consecutive possessions in a 28-21 victory over Jasper County.

*Harris County WR K.D. Hutchinson had eight receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-38 victory over Newnan.

*Harrison PK A.J. Daniels kicked field goals of 46, 48 and 36 yards in a 31-23 loss to Grayson.

*Heritage of Newnan RB James Thorpe rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries and caught a 13-yard pass in a 49-38 loss to Chattooga.

*Jasper County LB Jacarian Grier had 15 tackles, 2.5 sacks, five tackles for losses and an interception in a 28-21 loss to Greene County.

*Jeff Davis WR/DB Mike Dotson rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown, had five tackles and two tackles for losses and returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown in a 34-12 victory over Long County.

*Jenkins RB Josh Prigdon rushed for 202 yards on 16 carries in a 28-6 victory over Hilton Head, S.C.

*Jones County RB Javious Bond had 162 yards from scrimmage on 17 touches and scored three touchdowns in a 42-9 victory over Stockbridge.

*LaFayette RB Jaylon Ramsey rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries in a 28-12 victory over Murray County.

*Lanier DE Isaiah Taylor had six tackles for losses, five sacks and two QB pressures in a 25-10 victory over Peachtree Ridge.

*Lassiter DL Ethan Mackenny had five tackles, five tackles for losses and two sacks in a 27-21 victory over Wheeler.

*Lincoln County RB Tevin Gartrell rushed for 169 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries in a 36-29 victory over Harlem.

*Marietta WR Kamryn Perry had five receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-12 victory over Parkview.

*McIntosh County Academy QB Will Philmore was 5-of-7 passing for 162 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 55 yards in a 42-0 victory over Bryan County.

*Montgomery County WR/OLB Brandon Denmark caught four passes for 131 yards and one touchdown and had 11 tackles in a 20-12 victory over Hawkinsville. Montgomery County is 4-0 for the first time since 1989.

*Newton RB Rontravious Perry ran for 177 yards and scored on runs of 22, 92 and 5 yards in a 39-21 victory over McEachern.

*North Cobb MLB Grayson Hodges had 12 tackles, a sack, a tackle for a loss and a QB hurry in a 42-0 victory over Etowah.

*North Hall PK Luke Brown kicked a 43-yard field goal with two seconds left in a 23-21 victory over Chestatee. Brown averaged 41 yards on six punts, was 2-for-2 on extra points and kicked three of four kickoffs into the end zone.

*North Murray QB Seth Griffin was 22-of-34 passing for 387 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 68 yards in a 52-30 victory over Coahulla Creek. WR Michael McDade had 10 receptions for 210 yards and four touchdowns.

*Oconee County WR/DB Darius Johnson had six receptions for 111 yards, five tackles and a 52-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 20-6 victory over Thomasville.

*Oglethorpe County LB Tucker Cleary had 12 solo tackles, four assists and a tackle for a loss in a 21-16 loss to Social Circle.

*Pepperell QB Matthew Waddell was 10-of-12 passing for 174 yards and rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown in a 24-20 victory over Temple.

*Pickens QB Sam Streicher was 11-of-13 passing for 213 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 54 yards and a score in a 45-7 victory over Union County.

*Prince Avenue Christian DT Uriah Howard had six tackles for losses in a 35-10 victory over Wesleyan.

*Putnam County DB Jalon Kilgore had 10 tackles, two for losses, forced a fumble and broke up two passes in a 19-7 victory over Westside of Augusta.

*Rabun County QB Gunner Stockton passed for 405 yards and five touchdowns, completing 18 of 21 passes, and scored a touchdown, in a 63-7 victory over Saluda, S.C.

*Ringgold DB Kyle White had six solo tackles, three assists, two tackles for losses, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery in a 56-0 victory over Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe.

*Riverdale WR Malcolm Simmons returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and a punt 68 yards for a score in a 14-14 tie against Pebblebrook.

*Rome WR/DB Martel Hight had seven receptions for 104 yards and two touchdowns, three kickoff returns for 115 yards, an interception and five tackles in a 34-32 loss to South Paulding.

*Roswell WR Ethan Nation had five receptions for 149 yards and returned a punt for a touchdown in a 41-21 victory over Campbell.

*Sandy Creek QB Geimere Latimer was 20-of-32 passing for 329 yards and three touchdowns in a 44-14 victory over Westminster.

*Schley County WR/CB Jalewis Solomon had six receptions for 120 yards and two touchdowns and returned a kickoff 84 yards for a score in a 48-7 victory over Marion County.

*South Forsyth QB Ty Watkins was 9-of-12 passing for 139 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown in a 35-13 victory over Lambert.

*South Paulding QB Kasen Weisman was 17-of-22 passing for 303 yards and three touchdowns and scored a touchdown in a 34-32 victory over Rome.

*Southeast Bulloch DL/OL Collin Jackson had four solo tackles, four assists, two tackles for losses, a pass breakup and three pancake blocks in a 24-14 victory over Grovetown.

*Stephens County WR Cam Lacy had seven receptions for 184 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-18 victory over Habersham Central.

*Swainsboro DB Ja’Quavious Lattimore had five solo tackles, three tackles for losses, a sack and a forced fumble in a 39-7 victory over Dublin.

*Thomson RB Jontavious Curry had 208 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns on four touches in a 48-7 victory over May River of South Carolina. Curry rushed for 159 yards on three carries and had a 49-yard kickoff return.

*Towns County WR Collin Crowder had 13 receptions for 136 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-17 victory over Lakeview Academy.

*Trion RB Rob Brown rushed for 200 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-0 victory over Cedar Bluff of Alabama.

*Vidalia WR/DB Antonio Brown had seven receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown, a 13-yard run, four tackles, a pass breakup and a forced fumble in a 22-3 victory over Richmond Academy.

*Washington County DE Colton Smith had seven tackles, two sacks, two tackles for losses and two QB pressures in a 43-26 victory over Evans.

*Washington-Wilkes QB Dalen Cobb rushed for 192 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, was 12-of-19 passing for 173 yards and threw a 25-yard TD pass for the game-winner with 2:40 left in a 42-35 victory over Elbert County.

*Wesleyan DB/WR Drew Ball intercepted two passes, broke up three passes, made two tackles and caught two passes for 41 yards and a touchdown in a 35-10 loss to Prince Avenue Christian.

*Wheeler freshman QB Marcus Romain passed for 170 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-21 loss to Lassiter.

*Winder-Barrow RB/LB Aiden Thompson rushed for 119 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries and returned an interception 24 yards to set up one of his scores in a 36-18 victory over Cedar Shoals.

*Woodward Academy RB Damari Alston rushed for 219 yards and five touchdowns on 20 carries in a 55-13 victory over Mundy’s Mill.

Lines of distinction

*Alexander’s offensive line of C.J. Abell, Kelechi Ihekwereme, Will Naile, Matthew Smith and Ian Brown opened holes for 251 yards rushing on 27 attempts in a 28-13 victory over Paulding County. Tradon Foster rushed for 173 yards.

*Johns Creek’s offensive line of Chris Oh, Karl Ross, Will Lipsitz, Tyler Gibson, Max Thayer and Rowan Darnell facilitated a balanced attack of 234 yards rushing and 170 passing with no sacks in a 41-20 victory over Sequoyah.

*Loganville’s offensive line of Dylan Robbins, Zachary Waddell, Cade McClendon, Carter Hayes, Jake Taylor and Jeremiah Moua paved the way for 374 yards rushing and 442 total yards in a 35-34 victory over Greenbrier. Loganville scored on its final four possessions in the comeback win. Solomon Leslie rushed for 126 yards and four touchdowns.

*Lumpkin County’s offensive line of Tucker Bagley, Cam Simpson, A.J. Reeves, Lane McColman and Taylor Beasley with tight ends Dakota Bennett and Andrew Adams helped the Indians amass 161 yards rushing and 225 passing with no sacks in a 34-14 victory over St. Francis that broke a 19-game losing streak. QB Cooper Scott passed for 225 yards and rushed for 93.

*Oglethorpe County’s offensive line of Mason Lee, Reid Coley, K.B. Bonds, Logan Steward and Jayland Richardson made possible 342 yards of total offense (297 rushing) in a 21-14 loss to Social Circle. Nate Brown rushed for 127 yards.

*Rockmart’s offensive line of Tae Middlebrooks, Zay Middlebrooks, Clayton Floyd, Hugo Rangel, Montreas “Pooh” Simmons, Antrell McCoy, Grant Lisk and Zyion McCrary cleared the way for 375 rushing yards in a 50-28 victory over Sonoraville.

*Villa Rica’s offensive line of Jatavius Shivers, Bo Adcock, Caleb Starnes, Hudson Hyneman, Thomas Daniels, Dontavious Pounds and tight end Isaiah Johnson blocked for two 150-yard rushers – T.J. Harvison (163) and Ty McKey (192) – in a 48-26 victory over Central of Carrollton.
