It’s unlikely that a freshman has led Georgia in rushing, but keep an eye on Lee County’s Ousmane Kromah, who ranks second through seven games.
Kromah (his name is pronounced oos-mane-ee KRO-mah) rushed for 313 yards last week in a 68-49 victory over North Miami Beach, giving him1,097 for the season.
That’s still well behind the leader, as Houston County’s Simeon Askew checks in at 1,449 after a 272-yard performance against Veterans. The two backs will face each other in their next game Oct.15 in Warner Robins.
How deep their teams go in the playoffs will be a factor. Lee County is ranked No. 2 and would play15 games if the Trojans reach the Class 6A championship game as they did last season.
Better competition should only help Kromah’s cause. In one blowout game, Kromah had only one carry. It went 76 yards for a touchdown.
“He has tremendous strength and is able to break tackles but also has the ability to stop on a dime and make cuts,” Lee County coach Dean Fabrizio said.
Kromah also has good size at 6 feet,1 inch, 203 pounds, and is still growing. Kromah’s family moved to Lee County from the Ivory Coast when Kromah was in elementary school. His brother Mustapha played on Lee County’s 2017 and 2018 state championship teams.
