Keyjuan Brown of South Atlanta and Rob Brown of Trion aren’t related, not in the familial sense, but the two Georgia running backs are making spectacular history this season in eerily similar ways.

A week ago, they became the only Georgia football players to surpass 2,000 yard rushing on the season. Rob Brown finished with 2,002 yards. Keyjuan Brown finished with 2,001. Both of their teams finished the regular season 9-1.

Then in the first round of the playoffs last weekend, the Browns became only the third and fourth players in state history to rush for more than 400 yards in a playoff game. Fewer than 25 Georgia players have done it in any game.

Keyjuan Brown joined the 400 club Friday in South Atlanta’s 46-12 victory over Banks County. He rushed for 418 yards and three touchdowns on just 13 carries. That was the 10th-highest single-game rushing total in state history and second-highest in playoff history, according to the Georgia High School Football Historians Association.

On Saturday, Rob Brown got in the act in Trion’s 55-21 first-round playoff victory over Social Circle.

Rob Brown rushed for 448 yards and five touchdowns on 45 carries. Moving ahead of Keyjuan Brown, Rob Brown now has the second-highest single-game total in playoff history and sixth-highest in any Georgia high school game.

It also was the second straight game in which Rob Brown had gone over 400. He ran for 407 against Mount Zion of Carroll County on Oct. 29. Rob Brown is the only player in state history with two 400-yard games.

For the season, Rob Brown has 2,450 yards, and Keyjuan Brown stands at 2,419. Both are well ahead of the next-closest rusher.

The state record for rushing yards in a season is 3,172 by Daccus Turman of Washing-Wilkes in 2000.

Both backs also are leading their programs to new heights.

Trion, a Class A Public school, last week got its 10th victory for the first time since 2003.

South Atlanta, a Class 2A school, got its 10th victory for the first time in program history, which began in 1994.

Each will be back in action Friday. Trion travels to Wilcox County. South Atlanta will play Westside of Augusta at Lakewood Stadium.
