Bill Stewart, the football coach who led North Gwinnett to a state title in 2017, is taking a job as an analyst on Brent Key’s staff at Georgia Tech.

“I want the North family to know my heart is filled with extreme gratitude for the time that I have been your Head Coach,’’ Stewart said in a Twitter post announcing his move late Wednesday. “I have been blessed to work alongside of an incredible coaching staff with great men of character.’’

Stewart becomes Key’s second hire from Georgia’s high school ranks. Fellowship Christian coach Tim McFarlin began as director of high school relations on Monday.

Stewart’s record in six seasons at North Gwinnett was 60-19. His 2017 team defeated Colquitt County 19-17 in the only GHSA championship in history decided on the final play of regulation, a 38-yard field goal by Cameron Clark.

His 2022 team was 10-3 and reached the Class 7A quarterfinals.

Stewart was Etowah’s coach in Cherokee County from 2006 to 2011 and won three region titles. He was the defensive coordinator at Mill Creek from 2014 to 2016 and at Parkview from 2004 to 2005.

Stewart, a Florida native, played linebacker at Central Florida.
