Temple coach Scotty Ward is retiring, marking the unofficial start of the offseason coaching carousel.
“I would like to thank everyone at Temple High School for a fabulous seven years,” the coach tweeted Monday. “It’s been an honor and a privilege to be the head football coach here, and I will truly miss it.”
Temple finished its season Thursday with a 1-7 record. Ward’s teams at Temple and Worth County reached the playoffs in six of his 10 seasons as a head coach.
Armuchee coach battles cancer
Armuchee coach Jeremy Green is battling throat cancer and is away from the team, his wife, Jessica, shared on social media last week. Armuchee is 5-3 with its most victories since 2011. With Green away, Armuchee lost a heart-breaker Friday to Gordon Lee 16-14, knocking the Indians out of playoff contention. They finish at Bowdon this week.
Valdosta to retain Felton as coach
Valdosta last week made Shelton Felton its head coach officially. He’s held the interim tag through the season. Valdosta finished 4-6. One loss was a COVID-caused forfeit, and three others were against top-10 teams.
