Class 4A is in store for a busy upcoming weekend of games and the boys and girls team currently represented in the latest polls will be put to the test. Today’s blog will preview what’s in store for these ranked programs starting with the boys top 10.
No. 1 ranked Spencer will put its flawless 4-0 record on the line this Friday against a 2-1 Jordan team and No. 2 ranked Baldwin (5-0) will return to the court on Saturday to face a 3-6 Rutland team. Friday night will see a pair of top 10 showdowns with No. 3 ranked Stephenson (2-1) at No. 9 ranked Arabia Mountain (5-2) and No. 4 Westover (5-2) at No. 6 Monroe (7-4). Luella is currently ranked No. 5 following a 14-3 start to the season and the Lions will host 1-11 Riverdale this weekend. No. 7 Cedar Shoals is set to visit 3-12 Chestatee this weekend and No. 8 ranked North Oconee (12-2) will host a talented 9-3 Jefferson team. Finally, No. 10 ranked Miller Grove (4-4) will face a talented Mays team that is off to a 7-5 start and has a win over No. 3 Stephenson already on its resume.
On the girls side, the teams in the current top 10 all entered this week without a single loss in the classification. That changed on Tuesday with No. 7 ranked Arabia Mountain scoring a 57-51 victory over No. 5 ranked Marist. The War Eagles followed up the defeat by scoring a 52-46 win over Hapeville Charter and will be at home against a 5-7 Druid Hills team this Saturday. As for Arabia Mountain, the Rams improved to 5-0 and will host 0-5 Stephenson this Friday following their big win over Marist. At the top of the girls poll is Jefferson, which is off to a 10-2 start. The Dragons have a tough weekend ahead of them as they visit North Oconee (7-4) before taking on undefeated Class 6A powerhouse Buford, which is currently the No. 2 ranked team in the state according to the Maxpreps ratings.
No. 2 ranked Carver-Columbus will face Kendrick once again on the road this Friday after scoring a 95-40 win when the teams last met on Dec. 16. No. 3 Luella carries a 15-2 overall record into its home matchup against Riverdale (5-8) on Friday and No. 4 ranked Baldwin (7-0) will put its perfect record on the line at home against Rutland (2-5) on Saturday. No. 6 Spalding (10-3) will visit winless Howard (0-4) on Friday and No. 8 ranked Troup (4-4) will host rival Hardaway (3-2) on Friday. Cairo, is coming off a 87-54 win over Dougherty that improved the Syrupmakers to 9-0 and now they will visit 5-6 Thomas County Central on Friday. Finally, No. 10 ranked Pickens (11-2) is coming off a 50-16 win over Central-Carroll this Tuesday and will faceoff with a talented Heritage-Catoosa (10-4) team on Friday, looking to move to 7-0 in Region 8.
