Class 3A blog: Light weekend provides just a few lessons

ajc.com

What did we learn this week?

Well ... new-No. 10 Hart County is real, and Crisp County is young, following its 21-18 loss to Class A Private No. 2 Eagle’s Landing Christian. The Cougars dropped to 0-3 and out of the rankings.

Other than that, it was a light week for the top programs, but the teams that played performed as they should have:

-- No. 5 Sandy Creek beat Class 5A local-rival Starr’s Mill 37-16 after being tied 16-16 at the half. Geimere Latimer passed to Miles Thornton for an 88-yard touchdown to start the third quarter, and two rushing touchdowns from Dorian Graham in the fourth quarter put away the game.

-- No. 6 Appling County held Tift to negative yards in the second half and enjoyed a 24-7 victory against the 7A program.

-- Region 6 began inter-league play last week. The rest of the classifications begin in the next two weeks.

Region 6 results

-- Adairsville (3-0, 1-0) beat Murray County 55-13.

-- LaFayette (2-1, 1-0) beat Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 39-0.

-- Ringgold (3-0, 1-0) beat North Murray 31-28.

-- Rockmart (2-1, 1-0) beat Coahulla Creek 42-7.
