Atlanta Tipoff Club honors top state, metro basketball players, coaches

The Atlanta Tipoff Club announced its state and metro high school basketball players of the year Friday night with Milton’s Bruce Thornton (Mr. Georgia Basketball) and Woodward Academy’s Sydney Bowles (Miss Georgia Basketball) getting the top honors.

The metro players of the year are Mount Paran Christian’s Kara Dunn (girls) and Tri-Cities’ Simeon Cottle (boys).

Four coaches of the year were recognized. They were Norcross girls coach Ashley Clanton, Mount Paran girls coach Stephanie Dunn, Berkmar boys coach Greg Phillips and King’s Ridge Christian boys coach Bob Martin.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution will announce its all-state teams and players and coaches of the year on April 1.
