The Hawks will have two first-round picks, Nos. 17 and 18 overall, in June’s NBA draft. They also will have two second-round picks, Nos. 47 and 50 overall.
The NBA conducted tie-breakers Friday through random drawing to set the draft order after the lottery teams.
The extra picks originally belonged to the Rockets. The Hawks get their first-round pick (No. 18) through the Nets as part of the Joe Johnson trade. The second-round pick (No. 50) was part of a 2009 trade between the Hawks and Rockets for David Anderson.
The draft will be held June 27.
Keeping focus: At times this season the Hawks have lost their composure when bothered by calls from game officials. With the prevalence for physical play in the postseason, coach Larry Drew said he was going to be the "little birdie" on his players' shoulders to remind them stay focused.
“I think we understand the mindset that you have to have going into the playoffs,” Drew said. “We talk about it. We say we are not going to let certain things affect us. But, yeah, on the floor we do. I have to keep reminding these guys. We can’t go into this thing worried about this whistle.”
Quick turnaround: The Hawks will return to Atlanta immediately following Game 1 on Sunday afternoon and not stay in Indiana the two days between Game 2 on Wednesday. Drew said the decision was made as an organization, and he sought player input.
The Hawks will practice at home Monday and Tuesday and return to Indianapolis following the second workout.
“When you’ve gone through a long season, when you have an opportunity (to sleep in your own bed), you take full advantage of it,” Drew said.
Health check: Both Al Horford and Josh Smith said they are as healthy as can be expected headed into the playoffs. Horford sat out the final two games, and Smith missed the final one and a half of the regular season.
“We are not as healthy as I want to be,” Drew said. “We have guys that are nicked up. We have guys going through the healing process. This is the time of year that everybody is like that.”
Lou Williams, who missed the final 43 regular-season games after suffering a torn right ACL, made an appearance at Hawks practice Friday. The guard shook some hands on the court and took a couple of free throws.
Local broadcast: Fox Sports South and SportSouth will continue to broadcast Hawks games through the first round of the playoffs. SportSouth will air Game 1 on Sunday and Game 6, if necessary. Fox Sports South will televise Games 2, 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary). Whether Game 7, if necessary, will be televised by either of those networks will be determined.
Bob Rathbun will continue to do play-by-play, with Dominique Wilkins as the analyst. Andre Aldridge will provide courtside reports.
