An update on ex-Braves around the majors:
Brian McCann, C
New York Yankees
McCann’s three homers are less than half as many as his Braves replacement Evan Gattis has (seven) so far. McCann has four less RBIs than Gattis’s 14 and McCann is hitting .225, compared to Gattis’s .286.
Tim Hudson, P
San Francisco Giants
He is 4-1 with a 2.17 ERA, with 31 strikeouts and just two walks in 45 2/3 innings. Hudson has one more win than the other four San Francisco starters combined. He’s one of just three major-league starters to throw at least seven innings in each of his first six starts in 2014.
Martin Prado, 3B
Arizona Diamondbacks
He was 8-for-24 (.333) in the past week, boosting his average to .263. But he’s struggling in the field with six errors already (he had 10 last season) and manager Kirk Gibson has said Prado is putting too much pressure on himself.
Mark Teixeira, 1B
New York Yankees
His homer Sunday was his first batting left-handed since June 6, 2013. Teixeira, who had a wrist injury last season and a hamstring injury this season, is hitting just .238 with three homers and six RBIs in 13 games.
Omar Infante, 2B
Kansas City Royals
The former Braves All-Star leads all major-league second baseman in RBIs with 19, more than stars like Chase Utley and Robinson Cano. Infante has been strong defensively too, with just one error this season.
Adam LaRoche, 1B
Washington Nationals
The 10-season veteran set a career high with 29 hits in first month of the 2014 season and has a .312 batting average, four homers and 17 RBIs. He sat out Wednesday’s game because of a sore quadriceps muscle.
Rafael Soriano, P
Washington Nationals
The Nationals have 16 wins so far but the closer with a 0.00 ERA has only five saves, which ranks 10th in the NL. He pitched only two innings in the past week and walked three batters in those outings.
Brandon Hicks, OF
San Francisco Giants
He only played 33 games for the Braves but he has earned an every-day job with San Francisco after being a non-roster invitee. Hicks already has five homers — four have come while playing second base, matching the Giants’ total last season.
Melky Cabrera, OF
Toronto Blue Jays
The player who hit .255 in his only season with the Braves is batting .347 and leads the American League in hits. Cabrera left Wednesday’s game with a shin bruise after being hit by a pitch.
