Tiger Woods won four times in his first nine Masters tournament appearances. So sitting in the interview room Tuesday at Augusta National Golf Club having not won for seven years in a row is hard for him to fathom.

“I’m not very happy about that,” Woods said. “I’ve put myself in the mix every year I’ve been here except last year. The misleading part is that it’s not like I’ve haven’t been coming down here without a chance to win this championship. I’ve been there. Unfortunately I just haven’t gotten it done. I’ve been in the mix on the back nine. I just haven’t executed and made enough putts or taken care of the par-5s or whatever it may be. Just gotten it done.”

Woods certainly has had his chances. Other than last year’s tie for 40th, his other six trips have ended in top-six finishes, including No. 2s in 2007 and ‘08.

There’s a decidedly different feel this year as Woods comes in having won twice in 2013 and reclaimed the world’s No. 1 ranking.

“I feel confident with every aspect of my game,” Woods said. “I feel like I’ve improved and gotten more consistent and I think the wins show that… . Last year I had won my first event in a couple of years coming in here. This time I’ve won six times in the last 12 months.”

Wood’s golf game is not the only thing that has been fixed in his life. He has overcome knee and Achilles tendon injuries and, in his personal life, is dating skiiing Lindsey Vonn.

“Life is all about having a balance and trying to find an equilibrium,” he said. “I feel very balanced right now.”
