A look at three scorecards from the first round of the Masters on Thursday at Augusta National:

MATTHEW FITZPATRICK

71

Highlight: Was in the lead until he double-bogeyed No. 18.

What he said: "Just didn't really feel comfortable over the tee shot. My low one's lower than everyone else's, so I can actually kill someone at head high, so I didn't feel comfortable with people sort of poking their head round. Should have backed off it and got everyone to move. So I'll do that the rest of the week."

-

WILLIAM MCGIRT

69

Highlight: He birdied Nos. 2, 5, 13 and 16.

What he said: "Believe it or not, I was not nervous at all today. I really even surprised myself.

“Now, when I heard, “4, please, William McGirt now driving,” I almost shed a tear, but I realized I had to get up there and I had 40 seconds to hit it, so I better get it done quick.”

-

CHARLEY HOFFMAN

65

Highlight: He birdied four consecutive holes as part of five of six on the back nine.

What he said: "Obviously going to sleep on the lead at a major championship here at Augusta National is not going to be the easiest thing. I look forward to it, and I look forward to the challenge the next three days."
