Georgia Southern grad Scott Wolfes will carry a lot of momentum into next week’s Dogwood Invitational at the Druid Hills Golf Club.

The St. Simons Island native finished second at last week’s Sunnehanna Amateur, one of the summer’s major amateur events. Wolfes is a former Georgia Junior Amateur champion and finished second at the Sun Belt Tournament. He remains a long shot to make the U.S. Walker Cup team, but a win at the Dogwood would carry a lot of weight.

Wolfes, ranked No. 60, is one of five players in the field among the top 100 of the World Amateur Golf Ranking. The others are No. 51 Claudio Correa of South Florida, No. 67 Ben Schlottman of Auburn, No. 76 Taylor Moore of Arkansas and No. 100 Tom Lovelady of Alabama.

The tournament, which begins on Wednesday, lacks the world’s elite players, but has great depth. There are nine players ranked between 101-150. There field also includes four-time Div. III All-America Anthony Maccaglia of Oglethorpe and reigning Georgia Amateur champion Robert Mize of Columbus State.

Moxness defends at Judson: Barb Moxness returns to defend her title at the Judson Collegiate and Legends Pro-Am Challenge at the Country Club of Roswell. The unique event combines competition involving current women college golfers and former standouts on the LPGA Tour.

The tournament features two days of pro-am play, when a Legends player — the LPGA’s version of the PGA’s Champions Tour — teams with a college player for a best-ball competition, with three sponsors joining as part of a scramble.

The Legends field includes Hall of Famers like Nancy Lopez, Amy Alcott, Pat Bradley, Betsy King, Hollis Stacy and Kathy Whitworth, as well as host and former Solheim Cup captain Rosie Jones, should-be Hall of Famer Jan Stephenson and two-time Judson winner Alicia Dibos.

The 54-hole college tournament begins on Saturday. The field includes defending champion Jessica Haigwood of Georgia Regents University in Augusta and Zoe Brake of Ohio State, who tied for second last year.

Frog's new clubhouse: Two years after losing its clubhouse to a fire, the Frog Golf Club in Villa Rica is ready to open its new $2 million complex. The club, whose centerpiece is a Tom Fazio-designed course, is hosting a three-day celebration of the new clubhouse this weekend with complimentary cart fees for all players, prizes and tours.

The new 6,000 square-foot clubhouse features a pro shop, locker room, restaurant, bar and a large balcony lounge that overlooks the 18th hole. The new facility is an improvement over the previous modest building and is part of a master plan that includes a second clubhouse for members and a pavilion that will serve as a focal point for tournaments and group events.
