Former Atlanta Braves outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. and the San Francisco Giants agreed to a minor league contract on Saturday, according to ESPN.

After spending the 2016 season with the San Diego Padres and then the Toronto Blue Jays, Upton was released by the Blue Jays on April 2.

MLB.com reporter Mark Feinsand reported the news on Saturday.

Giants’ reporter for NBC Sports’ Alex Pavlovic reported the Giants’ interest in Upton— a 12-year MLB veteran—  stemmed from the inaccuracy of left field in the past few weeks.

Upton played for the Braves in the 2013 and 2014 seasons. He led the Braves in strikeouts in 2014.
