Georgia sophomore defensive back Latavious Brini was arrested Thursday night on a simple battery charge, according to the Athens-Clarke County jail log.

Brini was booked at 8:18 p.m. and released on $1,850 bond at 10:19 p.m the same day.

Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart issued a statement on Brini’s arrest: “This type of behavior is extremely disappointing and not representative of the standards for our football student-athletes. His discipline will be handled internally and hopefully good lessons will be learned that will lead to better choices moving forward.”

Brini, from Hialeah, Fla., played in five games this past season after redshirting his first season. Brini signed with Georgia as a member of the 2017 class, and is listed at 6-foot-2, 208 pounds.

Brini was arrested in December 2017 on a felony charge of forgery. But those charges were eventually dropped.

As for his football future, Brini was passed on the depth chart by Otis Reese last season at safety, in addition to sitting behind Richard LeCounte and J.R. Reed. Georgia also brought in 4-star safety Lewis Cine as a member of the 2019 signing class. Brini appeared in five games during the 2018 season and made only one tackle for the Bulldogs.

Georgia has already had one safety transfer this offseason, as Deangelo Gibbs moved to Tennessee in January. Another safety, Tray Bishop, has put his name in the transfer portal.
