Georgia Tech quarterback Jeff Sims received an endorsement Monday from an expert in the field. Former N.C. State quarterback Mike Glennon, who played eight NFL seasons, broke down a touchdown pass that Sims threw Saturday against Duke in a video on Twitter and said of Sims that, “if the ACC held a combine with all the quarterbacks, I’m not sure there’d be many more impressive quarterbacks than Jeff Sims.”

Glennon, who has been analyzing the ACC quarterbacks on his Twitter account this season, touted Sims’ size, speed and athletic ability, “and he gets the ball from point A to point B in a hurry. It’s just a matter of consistency, doing it play after play.”

Glennon dissected Sims’ 18-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Nate McCollum in the Yellow Jackets’ 23-20 overtime win. It was part of one of his better passing games in his three seasons as a starter, completing 23 of 34 passes for 227 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

With Sims taking a shotgun snap with an empty backfield, McCollum ran a seam route from the slot on the right side of the field, bending it to the middle of the field and finding a hole in the Blue Devils’ coverage for the score. From Glennon’s perspective, Sims made the correct read on the play, first recognizing that Duke was playing with two safeties in deep coverage and looking to the side of the field away from the middle linebacker.

With McCollum being the first read on the play as he ran his seam route, Sims was able to go to him when McCollum found an opening in the zone defense.

“Jeff sees that he’s got a huge void right here – great ball – and I’m just happy to see Jeff Sims and this Georgia Tech offense get going. Two wins back to back,” Glennon said. “It just has to come together on a consistent play-in and play-out basis.”
