The Syracuse football program announced Friday the hiring of a former Georgia Tech assistant coach.

Ricky Brumfield will serve as the special-teams coordinator for the Orange this season. Tech’s former associate head coach for special teams and cornerbacks coach left the team in October ahead of the Yellow Jackets’ game at Virginia Tech.

“I’m very grateful and humbled for the opportunity that coach Brown has bestowed on me,” Brumfield said in a release. “I’m very excited to be here. This a program with rich tradition and is on the rise under coach Fran Brown. I know he’s doing great things, he’s a real coach, a truthful and honest man and I’m just grateful to be part of this staff and help the program win.”

Brumfield was hired by Tech and coach Brent Key in 2023 for an annual salary of $300,000. He signed a contract extension in August, raising his salary to $400,000 and he was in line to make $450,000 for the 2025 season.

The former Utah State wide receiver began his coaching career in 2001 and was at Florida International before arriving in Atlanta and at Virginia for four seasons before that.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
