Shawn Chappell withdraws Georgia Tech commitment

Safety Shawn Chappell, who committed to Georgia Tech in late April out of North Carolina, announced Tuesday that he has re-opened his recruitment. Chappell, from Southern Durham High, was the fourth prospect to commit to coach Geoff Collins' 2021 signing class, which now stands at 18 players.

In a tweet, Chappell thanked Collins, safeties coach Nathan Burton and the Tech coaching staff for the opportunity.

“Hope y’all understand there was no love lost,” he wrote.

Chappell is a three-star prospect with reported scholarship offers from Syracuse, Arizona State and Appalachian State, among other schools. Tech has two other safeties committed to the class, Sirad Bryant of Crisp County High and Kaleb Edwards of Dacula High.
