Georgia Tech kicker Jude Kelley was named ACC specialist of the week for his two successful onside kicks in the final two minutes of the Yellow Jackets’ 48-40 loss at Virginia on Saturday.

Kelley is now 3-for-3 on onside kick tries (his first of the season was against Clemson) and is now a remarkable 5-for-5 in his career. The kicks, recovered by Malachi Carter and Juanyeh Thomas, enabled the Jackets to retain possession as they scored two touchdowns in the final 1:16 to cut the lead from 48-27 to the final 48-40.

“Georgia Tech did a really nice job of executing,” Virginia coach Bronco Mendenhall said Monday.

It’s the first time Kelley has earned the honor. He also pulled off a kickoff earlier in the fourth quarter in which he and the kickoff team lined up for an apparent onside kick. That maneuver brought most of the Cavaliers return team up to the Tech 45-yard line, but Kelley instead kicked downfield, and a Virginia player fell on the ball inside the 5-yard line.
