Georgia Tech’s volleyball team, ranked 16th nationally, split two matches at the Long Beach State Tournament in Long Beach, Calif., this weekend.

The Yellow Jackets defeated host Long Beach State Friday night 3-1 to improve their record to 4-0 before falling by the same 3-1 score to No. 18 UCLA on Saturday. Tech is now 4-1.

Against the Bruins, right-side hitter Marian Brambilla led with 17 kills and 12 digs. Outside hitter Julia Bergmann recorded her fourth consecutive double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs.

The trip to southern California was part of an ambitious non-conference schedule put together by coach Michelle Collier to prepare the Yellow Jackets for ACC play and the NCAA Tournament. Tech is seeking back-to-back NCAA trips after making it into the tournament last season for the first time since 2009.

UCLA was the third opponent that Tech has faced thus far that played in the NCAA Tournament last season.

Tech will be at home this weekend for the Georgia Tech Classic and its first matches of the season at O’Keefe Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets will play Mississippi State Thursday night, Indiana Friday night and Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon.
