Georgia Tech’s 2021 recruiting class received a significant addition Wednesday as Mount Zion High linebacker Trenilyas Tatum announced his decision to switch his commitment from South Carolina to Tech.

Tatum, listed at 6-foot-2 and 208 pounds, is a four-star prospect rated the No. 29 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 25 outside linebacker in the country (247Sports Composite). As the No. 348 player in the class, there is only one Tech commit ranked higher, wide receiver James BlackStrain from Cocoa, Fla. Tatum had been committed to South Carolina since April.

The class is now at 20 players and ranked 35th nationally and eighth in the ACC. Tatum is one of three linebackers who have committed to coach Geoff Collins along with Gavin Barthiel of Lakeland, Fla., and Grayson High’s Sebastian Sagar. The Yellow Jackets are in particular need of depth at that position group.

Tatum is the sixth prospect who had been committed to South Carolina to renounce his decision since Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp was fired Nov. 15, according to The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C.
