When Georgia Tech great Demaryius Thomas visited Saturday, it wasn’t a long stay. But it was long enough for him to impart wisdom upon some of those seeking to emulate his All-American career with the Yellow Jackets.

“He didn’t get a chance to address the group, but he’s definitely going to come back and do that,” Tech wide receivers coach Kerry Dixon said Tuesday. “But he was able to pull some guys to the side one-on-one, talk about his experiences here, what it takes to be great.”

Thomas retired in June from the NFL after a 10-year career in which he made five Pro Bowls, became the second-leading receiver in yardage in Denver Broncos history and won a Super Bowl.

“Anytime you get a guy like that to come back and talk to the guys, it has the extreme impact on them, not only football-wise, but as far as their life, as well,” Dixon said.

Wide receivers Avery Boyd and Pejé Harris were two who got some time with Thomas. Harris, like Thomas a bigger receiver, asked him how he used his size to get open for big plays.

“It was great,” Harris said. “Especially since he’s a bigger guy, a bigger receiver, he was giving me a lot of pointers on what was smart, what I needed to do at the line to get off press coverage and maintain my leverage and maintain the ability to win the routes. It was very cool speaking to him.”
