Georgia Tech’s TaQuon Marshall had the best quarterback opening weekend debut of any FBS quarterback.
Steven Lassan of Athlon Sports wrote when considering freshmen quarterbacks in their first game, transfers or quarterbacks that had not yet started for their current school, Marshall rose to the top spot.
“It’s a close call between Marshall and Virginia Tech’s Josh Jackson for the top spot, but we give a slight edge to Marshall for the No. 1 ranking,” Lassan wrote. “The converted A-back executed Georgia Tech’s flexbone option attack to perfection against Tennessee on Monday night. Marshall rushed 44 times for 249 yards and five touchdowns and also completed 5 of 9 throws for 120 yards.”
Marshall’s 249 rushing yards set a new ACC record while his five rushing touchdowns set a Georgia Tech record.
