Former Georgia Tech softball star Aileen Morales was named head softball coach on Wednesday by athletic director Todd Stansbury.

Morales, who was a Yellow Jacket from 2005-2008, also served on Georgia Tech’s coaching staff as a student assistant in 2009 and an assistant coach from 2010-2013.

Most recently, Morales was the head coach at Radford from 2016-2017. Morales earned a 62-54 overall record in her two seasons at Radford, turning the program around from a 12-win season in 2015.

After playing for the Puerto Rico National Team from 2007-2010, Morales served as assistant coach in 2012 before becoming the head coach at Young Harris from 2014-2015.

“I want to thank athletics director Todd Stansbury, senior woman administrator Joeleen Akin and the search committee for the faith they have put in me to lead the Georgia Tech softball program,” Morales said, according to a statement released by Georgia Tech. “It is an honor to return to The Flats, where my heart has always been. With great passion, I will work to build our Yellow Jacket program back to ACC and national prominence. I look forward to developing our student-athletes to achieve excellence in the classroom, on the field and in life.”

During Morales’ four seasons at Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets were the 2005 ACC regular season and tournament champions. The Jackets also won 185 games and qualified for the NCAA postseason four times.

To this day, Morales is Georgia Tech’s leader in games played (265), starts (265), at-bats (850) and stolen bases (154). She also is second in program history in runs scored (216), third in hits (261), tied for fifth in doubles (43) and in triples (10).
