Linebacker Joe Peterson was Georgia State’s sole representative on the Sun Belt preseason all-conference football teams that were released on Monday. He was selected to the second team, which were picked by conference’s head coaches and some media members.

Peterson led the team with 103 tackles and tied for the team lead with two sacks last year as a sophomore. The Panthers went 0-12. They will begin the 2014 season hosting Abilene Christian on Aug. 27 at the Georgia Dome.

Louisiana-Lafayette quarterback Terrance Broadway was the offensive player of the year. Arkansas State linebacker Qushaun Lee was the defensive player of the year.

While the Panthers had just one player selected, Appalachian State and New Mexico State weren’t represented.

Linebacker Edwin Jackson and offensive lineman Garrett Frye were Georgia Southern’s reps. Both were chosen to the second teams.
