THREE STORYLINES

Can Georgia State get off to a quick start? The Panthers have scored only 23 points in the first quarter this season, but it's often been the quarter in which they've played their best on offense. Converting some of those good drives into touchdowns may force Texas State to abandon its option run game and try to pass, which it hasn't been good at this season. Two interceptions were returned for touchdowns in the Bobcats' loss to Louisiana-Monroe last week.

Can the freshmen continue to play well? The Panthers have used at least 15 freshmen this season, and more are starting to earn more playing time. Defensive lineman Shawayne Lawrence earned his first sack last week, and wide receiver Robert Davis was a key player. They are just two of several freshmen who will see significant minutes against Texas State.

Can Georgia State get over the hump? Texas State's offense is inconsistent (22.8 points and 310.2 yards per game), which makes its defense (23.5 points and 383.2 yards per game) that much more impressive. But it also means that if the Panthers play well, they have a chance to earn their first win of the season. The Panthers held a fourth-quarter lead last week for the first time this season. Can they finish the game this week?

MATCHUP TO WATCH

Georgia State QB Ronnie Bell vs. Texas State LB David Mayo. Bell tied a school record with four touchdown passes last week. Mayo leads the Bobcats in tackles (53; 18 more than the team's next best tackler) and interceptions (three).
