Georgia State announced the 2018 team captains on the team Twitter account Thursday.

Quarterback Aaron Winchester, wide receiver Penny Hart, cornerback Jerome Smith, and linebacker Ed Curney are the Panthers’ 2018 team captains.

Winchester is competing for the starting quarterback position this season, according to coach Shawn Elliott. The junior served as former starter Conner Manning’s back up in 2016 and 2017, playing in seven games last season.

Hart enters his junior season ranked first in the nation among active FBS receivers in career receiving yards (2,281). The wide receiver also ranks first among active FBS receivers in touchdown receptions with 17.

Smith is a three-year starter with five career interceptions and 122 tackles. Curney sat out the 2016 season with a shoulder injury, however returned in 2017 and shared time at inside linebacker with Trey Payne.

The Panthers open the season at Georgia State Stadium against Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. Aug. 30.
