With Fromm at quarterback, Georgia tops future power rankings

The Georgia Bulldogs’ quarterback future is set for arguably the first time since Aaron Murray was under center in Athens. ranked Georgia as the No. 1 team in its quarterback future power rankings.

Jake Fromm returns as the incumbent starter from a freshman campaign that included an SEC Championship, an SEC Freshman of the Year honor and nearly Georgia’s first national title since 1980. Joining him will be a capable backup in Justin Fields, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2018 class.

“No program has a brighter future at the most important position on the field. The lone concern here is keeping both players around,”’s Adam Rittenberg said, “but either can take Georgia a long way.”

Security at the signal-caller position is a luxury Georgia hasn’t possessed in recent seasons. When Murray left in 2014, the Bulldogs entered quarterback limbo. First, it was Hudson Mason taking the reigns and then transfer Grayson Lambert had a shot. Lambert was beat out by Jacob Eason in 2016. Last season, Eason got hurt in Week 1, lost the starting job and then transferred back home to Washington.

Fields has already enrolled at Georgia and coach Kirby Smart has stated he expects a quarterback battle to ensue in the spring.
