THREE STORYLINES
Next men up. Georgia again will play without five of its top six offensive playmakers — tailbacks Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall and three primary wide receivers. Freshmen J.J. Green and Brendan Douglas will again carry the load in the backfield. They were good for 242 total yards against Missouri last weekend.
Record breakers. A couple of all-time SEC offensive records could go down during this game. Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray needs three touchdown passes and 30 yards of total offense to become the league's all-time leader in those categories. Also, Vanderbilt senior wide receiver Jordan Matthews is 103 receiving yards from surpassing former Bulldog Terrence Edwards as the SEC's career receiving leader.
Calling out the defense. Halfway through the season, the Bulldogs rank last in the SEC in scoring defense (33.7 ppg), 12th in passing defense (259.3 ypg) and 13th in third-down conversions (43.7 percent). Youth and inexperience are the primary culprits. Seven players are first-year starters, including three freshman. But it's time to show growth in Game 7.
MATCHUP TO WATCH
Georgia CB Damian Swann vs. Vanderbilt WR Jordan Matthews. Swann was considered a reason for optimism in the Bulldogs' secondary this season. But the junior has struggled in transition from nickel back to Georgia's primary pass defender, getting victimized often by opponents' top receiver. He'll have his hands full again trying to corral the 6-foot-3 Matthews, who leads the SEC with 47 catches. The Bulldogs' safeties will have to be heavily involved.
