Georgia fell behind early and could not rally during several critical singles matches, falling to Virginia 4-1 in the semifinals of the NCAA Tennis Championships Monday in Urbana, Ill.

Trailing 3-1, the Bulldogs (26-5) forced three-set matches at No. 2, 4 and 5 singles, UGA’s Garrett Brasseaux fighting through five match points against Mac Styslinger at No. 5 to even their match. But Virginia’s (29-0) Alex Domijan clinched the day with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Nathan Pasha at No. 2.

“It hurts to lose a really close match like this, but I couldn’t be prouder of the guys,” said UGA coach Manuel Diaz, who guided the team into the semifinals for the sixth time in eight years. “Virginia played a great match.”

Emory advances: Emory's women's tennis team faces top-ranked Amherst in the semifinals of the Division III tennis championships Tuesday morning in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The Eagles advanced with a 5-2 victory over Middlebury in Monday’s quarterfinals, senior Jordan Wylie clinching the victory with a come-from-behind win in No. 3 singles.

Emory reaches the semis for the fifth straight season. The Eagles lost to Amherst 5-4 during a regular season match March 22.
