The 15-year-old son of former Atlanta Braves second baseman Keith Lockhart is on the mend after being released from the hospital on Sunday.

Channel 2 Action News reported on Wednesday Lockhart is "grateful" for his son Jason's recovery and well as the support and prayers from the community.

Jason was in the hospital for 21 days after being hit in the face with a ball during a baseball tournament in South Carolina on June 17.

Jason’s father saw the whole thing happen from behind home plate.

"You know, you hear it smack," Keith said. "So I knew it got him in the face and he kind of bent over and you saw the blood from the stands."

Lockhart said his son is steadily improving and should be well enough to return to Dacula’s Hebron Christian School for the first day of school in August.
