Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon’s knee injury doesn’t appear to be serious and he is expected to return to practice this week.

“He’ll be ready to go at some point in time this week,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said on Monday.

Weatherspoon left the 27-26 win over the Redskins in the second half and did not finish the game on Sunday.

Free safety Thomas DeCoud who did not play against Washington because of a concussion is expected to return to practice Wednesday.

“Thomas will go to the next step in the (concussion) protocol,” Smith said. “He will be participating in practice on Wednesday, but it will be non-contact. We are anticipating that we’ll have Thomas back barring any setbacks in practice.”

Zeke Motta, a rookie from Notre Dame, started for DeCoud against the Redskins. He had an uneven effort. He was bowled over of Washington running back Alfred Morris’ 37-yard run and got beat on a deep ball.

Motta, a seventh-round pick, finished with five tackles and a pass breakup.

“There were some learning situations on certain plays,” Smith said. “I thought as the game went on, he played much better. There at the end of the ball game, I thought that he made some very physical tackles. It was his first time starting in the National Football League. He did a good job for us.”
